Hello all of you visitors interested in adult thumbsucking. AdultThumbSucker.com used to be a forum, but unfortunately it was bombarded with heinous amounts of spam! I decided to turn the site into a blog instead, since the adult thumb sucker community online is not a large one.
This site is a community and discussion forum about adult thumb sucking. Thumb sucking is a habit that is very common in kids, however it is now being learned that it is fairly common for the thumb sucking habit to continue into adulthood.

Many adult thumb suckers are learning that they’re not alone, and they don’t need to be ashamed of their habit. After all, it is a relatively harmless habit compared to others. Don’t be embarrassed, this site has several regular visitors who have a thumb sucking fetish! In other words, they may not be thumb suckers themselves, but they think it’s cute or sexy when their partner does it.

Adult thumbsucking is totally cool, harmless and very conforting, i use to be very ashamed of my habit, i tried everything during my teens to quit, but never was strong enough to do it. Now im pretty secure about myself and who i am, and i dont think thumbsucking make me less of a person. In fact you will never guess i suck my thumb, my teeth are allright, im a succesful enterpreneur, i teach in college and i suck my thumb everyday. I have a succesful life and i love sucking my thumb, so that is not becasue i have a trauma, or because i was not loved, on the contrary i have been very loved in my family and relastionship. My mom said i was sucking my thumb since i was born, im 38 now and still loved the pleasure. The only side effect, a callous on my thumb which is a lot smaller than it use to be in my younger years. I would love to talk to others with this habit and share pics. Everytime i see a picture of another thumbsucker i feel better about myself.. does that make sense to you?. I’m 18 and I still suck my thumb…I hadn’t even heard about adult thumb sucking until today. I’m very insecure about it, only 2 people know I still do it. My own parents dont even know. When I was younger, I went to a therapist, who tried so many methods to stop my habit, first was the paint on bitter liquid to make it taste gross, and to be so spicy that i didn’t want to. I ended up getting used to it, and continued, The therapist then proceeded to give me medical wrap to wrap my elbow, so I couldn’t bend my arm to suck my thumb, but I just became too strong for that. Next he suggested to my parents (i was 11-12 at the time) to use a device that I do not know the name of, but basically he said, that it attached to my thumb, and if i stuck my thumb in my mouth, it would cut my mouth open a bit, to discourage my habit. after he said this, I demanded that I stop seeing him, he kept telling me I was making a mistake, and that my teeth would move and so many other things, but I can honestly say my teeth are STILL perfect after all these years. To be perfectly honest, I do NOT want to stop sucking my thumb, it’s SO comforting to me. I only do it at night, right before I sleep, My habit seems to be different than common thumb suckers from what i can see, but when I suck my thumb, I must be holding a stuffed animal, and stroking the fuzz on it with the hand of which thumb is being sucked (right thumb). I still wonder who close to me, still sucks their thumb…But i know I will probably never know, because it’s rather embarrassing to me, I can only imagine how embarrassing it is to others…
I’d like to talk to some fellow adult thumb suckers in the future though….I still feel very alone…

I only suck my thumb when I am in bed, alone at night. I find nothing sexual or arousing about it. Just a relaxation technique for me that works well. My parents think that I quit along time ago. My current boyfriend has caught me, and I think that he finds it disturbing. I have had a boyfriend in the past who it was a turn on for, and I immediately made sure that I didn’t do it in front of him because A) I didn’t really like him
B) For me, it’s like I said, it is a relaxation thing for me. It’s all about me.
The physical reprocussions: My front teeth are good.
I do wonder if I don’t have an oral fixation because I smoke more than anyone should. I have very strong jaw muscles. To the point that I can’t chew gum, and I have had more than one dentist tell me that I have to use a childs tooth brush because I can’t open my mouth enough to use an adult tooth brush.
As far as the stuffed animal part, I prefer pillow case corners. I suck my left thumb (I am a right hander). I like to rub it around my nose and mouth. When I was a baby, I had a blanket with fringe that I would rub all over my face and my grandmother took it away from me to break my thumbsucking habit. Love the woman, but I don’t think that I will ever forgive her for that. So baby girl, you are not alone by any means…
I’m a thumbsucker, and still embarrassed by it. I thought I was all alone with this habit. My wife thinks it’s cute. I usually suck my thumb to go to sleep, concentrate, relax, and when I read . I only do it at home.

I am 22 and still suck my thumb! I’ve done it for forever…and only a handful of people know. Growing up my father gave me grief the whole time. Telling me to get it out of my mouth and if while watching tv I sucked it not thinking i was sent to my room… no my husband hates it aswell, he tells me that he is married to a child and that I’ll never be taken seriously. I dont understand how it ever effected them. I dont do it in public, never in school or at work. Being put down so much by my habit hurts and honestly makes me do it more to soothe my feelings. I have tried many of times to quit.. i have even had a dental piece attached to the roof of my mouth that hurt when i sucked hoping I would quit… twice. Once when i was nine and another attempt at 20. They worked while in (kinda) is all i can say. Is anyone else going through what i am. I Feel like im a great person… I would say i cute, im a great mom, a loving wife, but im a thumb sucker and it hurts to be ridiculed
Hi everyone, im lucy, 28 and have always sucked my thumb. My parents have always known and didnt have an issue with it but taught me to only do it at home when relaxing.. So luckily i dont get the urge when im at work and out and about.. But as soon as i get home i wash my hands, lay on my bed and suck my thumb and scratch this lambswool thing ive had since i was a kid! It sends me into a sleepy, relaxed, happy state that i can get no other way! My boyfriend doesnt care, only when he wants to kiss and im too busy chilling with my thumb does he get annoyed! My close friends know and think its pretty funny that a normal, friendly and social 28 year old with a good career still sucks her thumb. The older i get the less i care.. My teeth are pretty good, i have a slight overbite i might get corrected if it gets any worse. Otherwise they r straight and not bucktoothed like everyone said they would be. Hello Ok so I’ve been sucking my tumb since I was a baby! Honestly I HATE IT!! But I cant stop I’ve Tried so many times, But Im not strong enough!! Sometimes I blaime my parents because they didn’t make me stop! I have 2 kids and my oldest tried when she was a baby but I would not let her! my youngest never tried! Im still with there dad and he hates it! I hid it from him the first year we were dating! He evens says he prolly wouldnt have started dating me if he would have know! When he first found out he really didnt react but about 3 years after he started yell at me when I put it in my mouth or he will come up and smack me! My kids even pull it out of my mouth! Everytime I try to stop I cant sleep or I just think about it it like a finger version of crack!! And yes my teeth are becoming messed up! and my breath does stink I dont notice it but others do! And yes I do bursh my teeth 3 times a day! Like most others not many people know I even have family members that dont know! I just hope one day Im able to quit! So I guess you can say Im one of them unhappy 22 year old Thumb suckers!
I am a 28 year old male and have been sucking my thumb all my life. I never had any traumatic stress or was ever abused or anything like that, I just never wanted to stop. My parents when I was younger tried to put a spicy peppery substance on my thumb in the hopes that I would stop, but I would not and could not. I hid this habit from all my friend and family into my teens, from college roommates, and into my professional life now. I do it when I’m about to go to sleep mostly, as it has a calming effect on me, and soothes me into going to sleep. I don’t have crazy bucked out teeth like some of the literature out there might suggest, and have had braces once. I have had many girlfriends before and have never told them about it, and if they would stay with me, I would just try to fall asleep without sucking my thumb, which is something I feel is nessessary to fall asleep. It really has put a barrier into getting close to girlfriends, and finding true love(I’ve never told anyone before).
Until tonight, I have never researched thumb sucking or any blogs out there like this one. I am a successful, able minded, intelligent male in the Aviation Industry, and have come to the realization that I can only find and potentially wed only if I fully trusted someone with my secret. I would love to find other people like me to chat with or become pen pals, and it’s very suprising and comforting to know I am not alone in this world.

I have sucked my thumb and had a “blankie” since day one. My mom told me that I never took a pacifier.
My mom tried every way she could to try to get me to quit. She used bandaids, tape, or bandages at night. She would put that awful nail biting nail polish on me. Anything she could think of, she did. Nothing stopped me.
My family knows I still suck my thumb…they don’t say much about it. I do suck my thumb constantly when I am at home, sometimes in the car when I am driving, and occasionally at work if no one is looking. I love the fact that I suck my “left thumb” so I can get other things done with my “right” hand.
I am 40 years old today and I still suck my thumb. It is the one thing that completely calms me down, makes me feel secure, and comforts me beyond belief. I will admit I don’t want to stop.

Hi. I’m 28 years old and my new boyfriend sucks his thumb… He hides it from me… When we are watching tv on the couch he usually covers up with a pillow. When he sleeps he lays on one side .. The one not facing me. We have never discussed it. But I want to talk about it. I don’t know how to bring it up to him. I want him to feel comfortable talking about it. I feel like he jerks when I turn to him and he is doing it and hiding it. It’s so akward. I am also concerned because he seems to rather suck his thumb then hold me in bed. It can be very frustrating for me. We have been together for a year now and it still hasn’t been discussed. It’s like the elephant in the room at this point. I don’t want to emberass him. But I want to talk about it.

DId you ever get any replies to your post? I am in the same boat except my BF is 55 and I am 48. He has an extremely stressful job and super dysfunctional family so I can totally understand his need for comfort. I’m o.k. with the TS but like you, I just want it out in the open. I don’t want to make a big deal about it. I have caught him a couple of times in the middle of the night and he quickly tries to hide it. I know it must scare him to death that his secret will be found out and I will humiliate him. I have no idea the correct way to approach the subject. I would be interested in the feedback you received.

Wow, this is the first time I’ve even gotten up the courage to google adult thumb sucking, and I never expected to find so many people who do as well! I’m 28, and have sucked my fingers since I was hours old (my dad has the pictures to prove it), tried stopping at various times in life, but found that this is a stress reliever like no other. Over time, I’ve changed the position of my fingers in my mouth so my teeth haven’t been damaged in any way, and the only physical side effect is that the two fingers I suck have formed to fit eachother (it’s a little hard to explain). I have an amazingly wonderful, loving boyfriend who supports me in everything I do, and yet I’m still terrified to tell him about this. My dad always used to make fun of me for it when I was growing up, not because he was terrible, just because he really didn’t understand, but it instilled a DEEP feeling of shame about this. We are expecting our first child, and I am scared of 1.) how to hide this from her, and 2.) if she’s a thumb sucker, will it be hypocritical of me to try and make her stop? I know, it’s a hypothetical situation, but I think about it.
Anyway, I’m so happy to have found others like me, and I really look forward to sharing stories with you all.
For a while I almost gave up thumbsucjking when I was 25, I thought that it meant I had psychological problems. But I realised that there are plenty of other people meassed up depending on drugs alchohal and ciggeretes for comfort and that is far worse than adult thumb sucking. And to be honest if I’m utterly exhauset and falling asleep in my chair when I need to remain awake there is nothing that works better than sucking my thumb to give me a boost, make me feel better and wake me up. I love sucking my thumbs and intend to do it until at least my 80s, it’s a far better habit than stimulants.
Oh and I forgot to say that although I suck my thumb I reckon I’m far more grounded than most people.
When I’m not with my Canadian boyfriend, I suck my thumb. I think I have an oral fixation.
